The Great British Food Festival returns to Wentworth Woodhouse this August for another tasty weekend! The Great British Food Festival is a classic event and with this being the last chance to catch the festival in Yorkshire this year, there’s even more reason to head down to Rotherham. With street food, an artisan market, bars, live music and chef demos there is plenty for foodies to enjoy as well as kids’ cookery and activities to keep the little ones entertained. The events are also dog friendly so use it as an excuse to take doggo for a walk in the countryside while enjoying a drink in the sunshine.
Malton Food Festival is undoubtedly one of Yorkshire’s premier local food festivals and this year’s event will occur in the town of Malton from 26 to 27 August, this year’s summer bank holiday weekend. The Malton Food Festival 2023, or Summer Malton Food Lovers Festival, will attract tens of thousands of foodies from across the county and elsewhere in the UK. Organisers say there will be more than 100 market stalls and street food vans, in addition to live music, cookery workshops and a festival fringe. Malton is a beautiful old village in the heart of Yorkshire and this festival serves as a local highlight. With over 40,000 expected to be in attendance over the two days, it’s sure to be a memorable one.
If you fancy more of a worldwide flavour, why not try Selby’s food and drink festival promising to provide worldwide cuisine as well as a whole host of street performers and family fun. The festival is still chock full of local produce making it one of the biggest local food festivals and one that offers a little something for everyone. Dog friendly and tailored around the family, this festival promises to be a great day out.
Well, if it isn’t time for some local dairy goodness. The festival celebrates the incredible produce of the Dales – cheese very much included! – with local businesses throughout the National Park hosting their own special events, menus and tastings to mark the occasion. Look out for cheesy bites and themed dishes in local cafes and restaurants, demos using local produce, cookery courses, dining experiences, Yorkshire gin and ales, specially created dairy ice creams and sorbets, jams, jellies and chutneys, locally reared meat on menus, and the chance to meet the makers. There’s so much on offer, one weekend may not be long enough!
If you are looking for a festival that is a bit more hip and modern, then HuddersFeast might be just the vibe you are looking for with live music and 3 days of local street food. HuddersFeast is a street food festival, brought to you by Huddersfield BID, to highlight Huddersfield as the place to be and visit. Think street food, live music, free entertainment, family-friendly, local businesses and safe drinking.
A quick trip south to the East Midlands brings us the Festival of Food and Drink, the East Midlands’ largest celebration of local food producers and global flavours. The lovely venue of Thoresby Park makes the trip down more than worth it with a feast of fantastic street food traders, bars, and artisan producers, the family-friendly festival also offers a wide-range of have-a-go activities for visitors to take part in, from wine-tasting sessions and cocktail masterclasses, to a specialist Children’s Cookery School. The festival’s hugely popular Cookery Theatre will also return for 2023, with a stellar line-up of well-known faces from the culinary world sharing tips and recipes on the big stage. In terms of size and scope, this is one of the most unique festivals in the UK and certainly one worth highlighting here.
There you have it. A detailed list of some of the very best local food festivals and markets in and around Yorkshire. Supporting local businesses and ensuring that they are able to continue providing our community with some of the very best produce and ensuring that our local communities continue to flourish as we face harder financial times.
